Dear Parents,
Please consider this a quote from James W. Moore's book, Rich in the Things That Count the Most. (Copyright 2006 by Dimensions for Living, Nashville, TN)
"You can give your children cashmere sweaters or ski trips to Colorado or sports cars if you want. But let me tell you something. Without question, the best gift you can give them is Jesus Christ and his church. If you want to do something good for your children, if you want to give them the gift that keeps on giving, if you want to give them a gift that shows them how much you love them, then introduce them to Jesus Christ and his church. Get them completely involved in serving Christ through his church. It's the best gift you can give them, the most valuable thing that you can do for them.
"Now, of course, we can't make that decision for them. Ultimately, it is a personal decision. But we can strongly encourage them is that direction, and this is our calling: to show them with words and actions how important the church is."
(pages xii-xiii)
Study after study confirms that, for good or for bad, parents are the most important spiritual influence in any person's life. Won't you use your influence to give your child the gift of Jesus? Our church seeks to build relationships with the youth and the parents of our community, to model Jesus Christ to them, and to build up disciples. Let's join together!
We know that transportation is an issue in Roscommon County, but we have a lot of dedicated adults willing to help. If you need assistance getting your child to church, just ask! Our phone number and address are at the bottom of this page. Also, if you want to encourage your child, don't ask them to go alone! Offer to drive them there, pick up a few friends on the way, stay for the event, or talk to the other youth workers in the adult team at our church. One of the scariest things to a teenager is showing up to an event full of strangers. The difference between a bad youth meeting and a good youth meeting is not the program, but whether or not each youth feels welcome and befriended.
Also, please take the time to ask the hard questions with your son or daughter. Often times their resistance to church is due to unanswered questions or simply a past event that was unresolved. If your kids see you willing to work with them to figure out this thing called faith, they will be willing to follow where you lead.
If there is any way we at Youth Fellowship can help, please do not hesitate to ask.
